NATIONAL LIBRARY OF NIGERIA 60TH ANNIVERSARY CREATIVE EXPRESSION COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS

Title: Lit for Life Africa: Creative Expressive Competition

 

Purpose: To inspire young Nigerians to express their creativity and share their stories as part of the National Library of Nigeria's 60th Anniversary Celebration. The competition will showcase the creative talent of Nigerian youth, encouraging a deeper connection with literature and the importance of storytelling.

 

Target Audience: Young Nigerians aged 15-30 who have a passion for literature, culture and storytelling.

Competition Objectives

To foster a culture of creative expression among young Nigerians.

To highlight the importance of storytelling in preserving culture and shaping the future.

To promote literacy and creative arts as part of the "Lit for Life Africa" initiative.

Theme

The theme for the competition is “Stories of Tomorrow”. Participants are encouraged to produce works of art that explore future possibilities, the impact of technology on society, cultural evolution, or their hopes for the future of Nigeria and Africa.

 

  • Eligibility: The competition is open to Nigerian citizens between the ages of 15 and 30.
  • Submission Requirements:
    • Submissions must be original and previously unpublished.
    • Creative expressions can be in any medium (such as, but not limited to, photograph, collage, painting, film, mixed media, dance, music, computer-generated art, sculpture, and written words such as poetry or short story).
    • If written, works should be in English, but can include cultural context.
    • Each participant may submit only one entry per category.

 

  1. Online Submission: Participants must submit their works of art via an online portal at litforlife.africa.
  2. Entry Deadline: All entries must be received by 8th November 2024.
  3. Concept Description: Each submission should include a 100–200-word description of the design, explaining the symbolism and the inspiration behind your work.

 

 

  • Creativity: Originality and imaginative use of the theme.
  • Narrative Structure: Clarity, coherence, and organization of ideas.
  • Emotional Impact: Ability to evoke emotions and connect with readers.

 

  • The judging panel will consist of renowned Nigerian creatives, educators, and representatives from the National Library of Nigeria and Kryterion Limited.

 

  • First Prize: Cash reward of ₦500,000, a certificate of recognition, and an invitation to the NLN 60th Anniversary Celebration for the official award presentation.
  • Second Prize: Cash reward of ₦300,000 and a certificate of recognition.
  • Third Prize: Cash reward of ₦200,000 and a certificate of recognition.

 

  • Winners will be announced on 15th November 2024 on the National Library of Nigeria’s website and social media channels.
  • Winners will be invited to attend the National Library of Nigeria 60th Anniversary Celebration on 19th and 20th November 2024 for the official award presentation.
  • All submissions become the property of the National Library of Nigeria.
  • By participating, entrants agree to have their work used for promotional purposes by the National Library of Nigeria and Kryterion Limited.
  • The winning entries may be featured on the National Library’s website and in related publications.

 

  • The Lit for Life Africa Creative Expression Competition offers young Nigerians a unique opportunity to showcase their creative talent and share their vision for the future.
